Pearl Care

Real pearls are made by nature, layer by layer. A little everyday care keeps their glow for years.

Last on, first off

Put your pearls on after perfume, hairspray, lotion and make-up. Take them off before you exercise, swim, shower or go to the beach. Sweat, chlorine and seawater can dull the surface over time.

Wipe after wearing

Gently wipe each pearl with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. If needed, use a cloth lightly dampened with plain water, then let the piece dry flat. Never use jewellery cleaner, ultrasonic cleaners, steam, vinegar or bleach.

Store them on their own

Keep pearls in a soft pouch or a lined box, away from other jewellery that could scratch them. Avoid sealed plastic bags for long periods. Pearls like a little air and moisture.

Strands and necklaces

Store strung necklaces flat rather than hanging, so the thread does not stretch. If you wear a strand often, have it checked from time to time.

Silver, gold and steel

Sterling silver can darken naturally with air. Polish the metal only with a soft silver cloth, keeping it away from the pearls. Gold-plated pieces last longest when kept dry and away from perfume. Stainless steel is easy care: just wipe it clean.

Natural variation

Every real pearl is unique. Small differences in shape, surface, colour and lustre are a sign of a genuine pearl, not a flaw.
